Transparency, Accountability, and Reform for Arizona Families

This platform exists to help the public access information, follow court-related developments, understand reform issues, and support advocacy efforts related to family court proceedings and A.R.S. 13-911 in Maricopa County.

Our Mission

Why Family Court Reform Matters

Family court decisions reshape lives entirely. Outcomes in Maricopa County directly affect the safety of children, the financial stability of families, and the foundational well-being of our community.

However, the system is often opaque and difficult to navigate. Without active public oversight, accountability can falter. Transparency in rulings, adherence to due process, and fairness for self-represented litigants are not just ideals—they are civic necessities.

This platform is dedicated to public education. We believe that by aggregating official court resources, highlighting systemic patterns, and providing education on relevant statutes, we can empower families to advocate for themselves and push for meaningful systemic reform.

"A justice system that operates in the dark cannot serve the families it was built to protect. Transparency is the first step toward accountability."

Understanding A.R.S. § 13-911

Arizona Revised Statute 13-911 provides a legal pathway for individuals to petition the court to seal certain criminal case records. This is a crucial statute for second chances, employment, and dignity.

Who May Be Affected?

  • People with arrests that did not lead to charges.
  • Individuals with dismissed cases or not-guilty verdicts.
  • Those with eligible convictions who have met specific timeline and completion requirements.

Why This Matters (Advocacy Lens)

Unsealed records often create unjust barriers to housing, employment, and community participation long after a case is resolved. Educating the public about A.R.S. 13-911 is part of our broader mission for justice reform, ensuring that individuals know their rights to a clear public record when the law permits.

Process & Questions

Public Education Only — Not Legal Advice

A.R.S. 13-911 allows eligible individuals to petition to seal police, court, and prosecuting agency records related to specific arrests, charges, or convictions, effectively hiding them from most public background checks.

Petitions must generally be filed in the court where the conviction occurred or where the charges were filed. If no charges were filed, it is typically filed in the county where the arrest occurred.

No. Sealing is not expungement. The records still exist and can be seen by law enforcement, courts, and certain state agencies, but they are generally shielded from public employers and landlords.

Official forms are often available through the Arizona Judicial Branch website or the Maricopa County Law Library Resource Center. We strongly recommend consulting with a qualified attorney or legal aid clinic to ensure the process is handled correctly.
